New bus lane aims at speeding up service
A new bus lane is to open in west Belfast next week.
The six-day, 12-hour lane on the Stewartstown Road will begin operation on Monday.
It is situated between Michael Ferguson Roundabout and Finaghy Road North and is part of the Belfast Rapid Transit system, which aims to improve transport around the city.
It will operate, city-bound, from 7am to 7pm from Monday to Saturday.
The Department for Infrastructure said: "This new bus lane will provide increased priority for buses and support a faster, more reliable and accessible bus service on this key public transport route."
Latest figures show a total of 27,911 fines were issued to motorists caught driving in Belfast's bus lanes in 2016.
The bus lane at Donegall Square East generated most tickets (7,340), followed by Great Victoria Street (5,054) and Castle Street (4,441).
