New Lodge shooting: Man arrested over Belfast alleyway attack
A 51-year-old man has been arrested in Belfast following a paramilitary-style shooting in the New Lodge area on Monday.
The victim, aged in his 20s, was shot a number of times in the body, police said.
He was shot in an alleyway between Sheridan Street and Donore Court at about 1am on Monday.
Detective Inspector Nigel Snoddy said: "A man in his 20's sustained a number of gunshot wounds in the attack which took place in an alleyway between Sheridan Street and Donore Court in the early hours of the morning.
"The arrested male was detained in the greater Belfast area this evening. He remains in custody at this time.”
Sinn Fein MLA Caral Ni Chuilin condemned the "vicious" shooting at the time.
She said: "This was a very serious incident. The young man was shot on a number of occasions and we could well have been looking at another fatality in north Belfast.
“This shooting was wrong and I call on those behind it to end their war on the people of north Belfast.
“Anyone with information on this incident should bring it forward to the PSNI."
