A number of families are set to move into six new homes in Bangor in the New Year, it has been confirmed.

Social housing group Helm Housing confirmed that 22 people will be housed in six homes — two three bedroom and four two bedroom — in the Rathgill estate in February. A total of 28 homes are currently being built — 15 two bedroom, three, three bedroom and 10 apartments.

Mark Orr from Helm Housing said that he hoped the first phase, along with a second phase of a further six units, will be handed over by the end of February 2010.

“The remaining 16 units will be handed over for accommodation by April 2010,” he added.

Homes and apartments were formerly situated on the same site but were eventually knocked down because of anti-social behaviour in and around the properties.

All the new homes will have solar panels with the express aim of bringing cheaper heating and electricity costs to residents.

The Housing Executive will choose the tenants who will have an option of purchasing the properties after three years.
