The Consumer Council has expressed disappointment that the only flight from Northern Ireland to New York will be disrupted next winter.
United Airlines will temporarily suspend the route between Belfast International and Newark from January 6 to March 11.
Aodhan O'Donnell, interim chief executive at the Council, said: "Our figures show that between January 1 and March 31 2013 there were over 14,000 passenger journeys on this route so this has the potential to affect many passengers."
The direct flight began operating 10 years ago.
United also announced it will suspend some transatlantic flights from Dublin, Rome and Manchester during the same period.
