Nigerian man thanks public who flagged down police during assault in Belfast city centre
A Nigerian man has thanked members of the public who alerted the police during an assault in Belfast city centre.
At around 3pm on Wednesday January 14, police on patrol in Castle Street in Belfast city centre were flagged down by members of the public who reported an ongoing assault.
Police responded and a 21-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were arrested at the scene on suspicion of common assault.
The two men were subsequently charged with common assault and are scheduled to appear in court on February 11, 2014.
Constable Crothers said: "The injured party in this incident, who is originally from Nigeria, passed on his thanks to those who sought police assistance.
"We would encourage anyone who may witness crime to report it to police on 101 or in the case of an emergency ring 999.”
