No prosecutions over Muckamore hospital sex abuse probe
The Public Prosecution Service has ruled out bringing anyone to court following an intensive police probe into allegations of sexual abuse at a Northern Ireland hospital.
Serious questions were raised over the safety of some of Northern Ireland’s most vulnerable patients when allegations of abuse among patients at Muckamore Abbey Hospital in Co Antrim first came to light four years ago.
In 2007 the Belfast Telegraph revealed that a police investigation was under way into multiple allegations of abuse among patients at the hospital stretching back over two decades.
A PSNI spokesman said: “A file was prepared and sent to the PPS who recommended no prosecution.”
