Published 26/10/2010

Harrowing tales of the Troubles, as told through the eyes of the country’s taxi drivers, has become a talking point among the New York art scene.

A video short, by Co Down artist Lisa Byrne, has been named as one of 25 winners in an international competition hosted by the Guggenheim Museum and internet video site YouTube.

Lisa’s footage of taxi drivers from her home of Hallsmills outside Banbridge has astounded New York audiences, with the New York Times saying watching it “may burn a hole in your heart”.

A photographer, artist and lecturer, Lisa was among 23,000 people who entered a short film into the YouTube Play competition.
