It was a flipping great effort today as Northern Ireland tried to break the Guinness World Record for the most people tossing a pancake in one spot.

Hundreds gathered at Belfast Metropolitan College today as part of Tourism Northern Ireland's Year of Food and Drink 2016.

The record currently stands at 890 people but Northern Ireland aimed to smash that with a target of 1,000 in mind.

The participants arrived at 11am and were given a small frying pan and pancake in the Courtyard of the Belfast Met Titanic Campus.

They had a practice go at 12.10pm before the real attempt at 12.15pm.

But while it was a solid attempt - they failed to break the world record.

It is not known yet exactly how many people were there but it was not enough to surpass the record.

But not all was lost - as they beat the Northern Ireland record.
