Northern Ireland weather: Rain on way to end mini heatwave

By Michael Shields McNamee

The scorching weather Northern Ireland has been basking in is coming to an end.

Bouts of thunder, lightning and hail made their way into western parts of the province yesterday evening and is expected to spread eastwards this afternoon. Localised flooding has also been predicted for some areas.

It brings to an end a two-day run where we recorded our hottest days of the year, with temperatures on Thursday hitting 25.8C, before climbing to a high of 26.2C yesterday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for severe rain due to hit the province at around 1pm today and continue until early tomorrow.

Patchy downfalls are also forecast through until the middle of next week.
