The Odyssey Arena in Belfast is to reopen with a new name and a new look

Northern Ireland's biggest indoor arena is set to reopen with a new look and new name.

The SSE Arena, Belfast, formerly known as the Odyssey Arena, now boasts 9,000 new seats, 180 digital screens and high speed broadband access following the 10-week re-vamp costing £3 million.

Neil Walker, general manager, said: "The arena has been improved to the highest specification to ensure we deliver world class live entertainment, with digital and wifi capacity to help enhance our customers' enjoyment."

Since it opened in 2000, the arena has had more than eight million visitors.

The new name, SSE Arena, Belfast is part of a major 10-year naming rights deal with energy provider SSE Airtricity.

It is home to the Belfast Giants Ice Hockey team and is due to host three sold-out shows by One Direction next month.
