Online blackmail investigation: Man arrested in England and brought to Northern Ireland
A man has been arrested in England and brought to Northern Ireland for questioning by PSNI officers investigating an online blackmail plot.
The 46-year-old was arrested in the Northampton area yesterday by officers working alongside the Northamptonshire Police and East Midlands Special Operations Unit.
He has been taken to a police station in Belfast for questioning and is being held on suspicion of blackmail, harassment and fraud by misrepresentation.
Detective Chief Inspector Douglas Grant, from Serious Crime Branch, said: “Our investigation began after a woman in Northern Ireland made a complaint about online exploitation.
"The investigation resulted in yesterday’s arrest of a suspect for blackmail, harassment and fraud by misrepresentation.
"Our enquiries are continuing.”
