Police are appealing for information after a 23-year-old woman was raped by a gang.
She was walking along Bell Steele Road in Poleglass on the outskirts of west Belfast at around 10.10pm on Friday when she was approached by three men and forced on to a grass bank near the Woodside estate, where she was raped.
West Belfast SDLP MLA Alex Attwood has condemned the violent assault of the young woman.
"This is a truly appalling incident," Mr Attwood said.
"Everyone is shocked and has the fullest sympathy for the victim, family and friends.
"Those involved in this attack are a risk to the welfare of others.
"Their immediate apprehension and detention is crucial. Anyone with any information should contact the PSNI."
Sinn Fein councillor Charlene O'Hara said the people who assaulted the woman must be removed from the streets.
"First and foremost the thoughts of the community are with the victim who has suffered this dreadful ordeal," she said.
"I would call on anyone with any information whatsoever to contact the PSNI so that the culprits can be taken off the streets."
Anyone with any information about the attack is asked to contact detectives in the PSNI's Rape Crime Unit on 0845 600 8000.
