Outrage as shotgun is discovered in playground
The discovery of a shotgun at a children's play park yesterday morning has sparked anger in west Belfast.
It was reported to police just after 9am in the Whiterock Close area.
Sinn Fein MLA Pat Sheehan said those who left it there had "endangered this community".
"It is completely unacceptable and is to be condemned in the strongest terms," he added.
"This is a new play park being built in an area that sits beside both a primary school and the local leisure centre.
"It is fortunate that given the amount of children in the area, this has been found and taken off our streets."
"I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious to bring that information to the PSNI."
The shotgun is now being examined by the PSNI, and roads closed after the discovery have been reopened.
