Over 500 people in Northern Ireland on Sex Offence Prevention Orders
Figures have revealed that over 500 sex offenders are the subject of Sex Offence Prevention Orders throughout Northern Ireland.
Justice Minister David Ford confirmed that there are a total of 526 paedophiles, rapists and flashers currently subject to the orders.
According to the minister’s justice department, there are 145 people subject to the orders in Belfast; 75 in Ards; 73 in Antrim; 72 in Londonderry; 63 in Fermanagh and Tyrone; 60 in Craigavon; and 38 in Armagh and South Down.
The minister said he was not able to identify which orders had been breached without an extensive manual tracking exercise for each individual record because such an operation would be disproportionately costly.
