Pair charged with raping woman
Two men have appeared in court accused of raping a woman they met in a Belfast bar.
Andrew Weldon (20), of Dunluce Avenue in the city, and Nathaniel Corbett (28), of Rathcoole Street, were charged following an alleged attack in the Rathcoole Street area of the city early on Monday morning.
Both suspects were granted bail but banned from contacting each other or the alleged victim.
Belfast Magistrates Court heard the accused had been out at a bar in the university area where they met the alleged victim and another woman and spent time drinking together before going back to Corbett's house, it was claimed. Defence solicitor Ciaran Toner, said his client, Weldon, claimed he had consensual sex with the woman accusing him of rape, and had given a detailed account to police.
Mr Toner told the court: "He denies this (allegation) and he co-operated fully with police."
Both accused will appear again before the court next month.
