Almost 1,500 Belfast Health Trust nurses did not receive unsociable hours pay this month due to a computer glitch.

Basic salaries have not been affected but wages for working weekends or public holidays have not been passed on, a Trust statement said.

The healthcare organisation promised to investigate to ensure there was no repeat next month.

A spokesman said: "The number of Belfast Trust staff affected by the enhancements error was 1,459 nursing staff.

"The Trust would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused due to this error and has been investigating it to ensure all outstanding enhancement payments are paid on Tuesday.

"The enhancement payment error was caused by a software problem in one of the payroll feeder systems and not the payroll system itself.

"The Trust will engage with the system providers to investigate what has happened and to ensure there is no repeat in the November payroll.

"We would encourage staff to contact their line management if they have any concerns."
