A male pedestrian has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Derry.

The accident happened shortly after 2pm this afternoon.

The victim was taken to the nearby Altnagelvin Hospital for treatment for injuries said to be "serious".

Police in Foyle had closed off the Crescent Link Road between the Caw Roundabout and Craigs Roundabout following the road accident.

They were advising motorists to use alternative routes for a time but the area has since reopened.
