A pensioner who was killed while out walking a family pet dog in Ballymena has been named as Yvonne Richmond.

The 70-year-old, from the Ballykeel area of the town, is believed to have chased the dog after it ran across the busy road on Friday night.

She had been looking after the pet while a family member was on holiday.

Mrs Richmond was struck by a vehicle on the Galgorm Road, near the junction with Dans Road, shortly before 9pm.

A single vehicle was involved in the crash.

Police continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was travelling on the Galgorm Road before the collision to contact local police in Ballymena or the Collision Investigation Unit in Steeple on the non-emergency number 101.
