Two pensioners are recovering after separate burglaries in North Belfast.

An elderly man was knocked to the ground and gagged when a gang of three robbers targeted his home in the Graymount Drive area of Newtownabbey on Monday.

He suffered a slight arm injury.

The incident happened after he answered the door shortly before 7.30pm.

His sister, who was also in the house at the time, escaped uninjured.

The robbers who stole an empty cardboard box, are thought to have made their escape in a silver Vauxhall Vectra car.

A short time earlier, an elderly woman was pushed to the ground when a stranger tried to force his way into her Lawnview Street home.

He fled when she began shouting.

Police said the woman was not physically hurt but was left badly shaken by the ordeal.

Detectives are working to establish a link between both incidents and have appealed for witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
