Personal Stories: LGBT choir is looking forward to anniversary
Damian McIlduff from Lurgan on his passion for singing
Damian (27) from Lurgan is the vice-chair of Quire Belfast, a group of singers from Northern Ireland's LGBT community, formed in 2005.
Quire is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a concert at Theatre at the Mill in Newtownabbey on June 6.
Damian said: "I was going through a difficult time in my personal life when I met an old school friend Leanne McCorry.
"She is Quire's musical director and invited me along to rehearsals.
"I always sang in choirs in school but when she suggested joining Quire I was a wee bit reserved as I had never been to an LGBT group before but it was great. I loved it.
"The group is so closely knit.
"It is really sociable. It's not all about the singing it is also about the extended family you get.
"We have performed at City Hall, Titanic Slipways, the Mac, the Crescent Arts Centre, the last three culture nights and other events.
"We try to support charities, performing for Mencap and Pips suicide awareness charity among others.
"We are looking forward to our 10th anniversary concert.
"We will be singing songs from over the last decade and new songs too.
"We have the Gloria choir coming up from Dublin to perform with us on the night.
"It will be a really fun, energetic, entertaining celebration of music."
