Pharmacist faces trial for OAP's murder
A jury has been sworn in for the trial of a woman accused of killing a Newry pensioner found dead in her home at Christmas nearly three years ago.
Pharmacist Karen Walsh (45), from Dublin Road, Newry, stands accused of the murder of Maire Rankin (81).
Mr Justice Hart told the jury of six men and six women that during the trial, which could last up to four weeks, they would hear that Walsh was a neighbour to the widowed Mrs Rankin, a mother-of-eight, who was found dead in her Dublin Road home on Christmas 2008.
The case opens next Monday.
