A pipe bomb has been removed for forensic examination after a security alert in north Belfast - the second in the New Lodge this week.

Residents of Fortfield Place were evacuated from their homes as Army bomb disposal experts dealt with the device yesterday.

Fortfield Place was closed between Lepper Street and Spamount Street, but has since reopened.

A similar device was discovered on Monday on Lepper Street itself.

The latest pipe bomb find is at least the fifth device found within a few streets of each other within the past year.
