Pipe bomb found during north Belfast security alert
A pipe bomb has been found during a security alert in north Belfast.
Police attended Fortfield place and a number of homes in the area were evacuated after a suspicious object was found.
Police later declared the object a viable pipe bomb following examinations by the Army bomb squad.
Sinn Fein councillor JJ Magee condemned those behind the alert in the New Lodge area.
He said: "The discovery of a device in the New Lodge area this morning is worrying.
"The local area was disrupted and a number of homes evacuated after the device was found in Fortfield Place and the street was closed.
"Thankfully no one was hurt in this incident but it caused a great deal of inconvenience locally.
"This is the second alert in the area this week and the local community is fed up with it.
"Those behind this incident have nothing to offer the local community and need to end these pointless actions immediately."
