A pipe bomb has been found during a security alert in east Belfast.

It was discovered at a house on Medway Street on Thursday evening.

The device was made safe and taken away for forensic examination, police said.

Part of the Bangor to Belfast railway line was closed for several hours but re-opened at about 8.40pm on Thursday.

Evacuated householders were allowed to return home a couple of hours later.
