Pipe bomb found on Derry estate

A pipe bomb has been discovered in Derry.

The device was found in the Eastway area of the Creggan estate this morning, police said.

Army technical officers were called, the road closed and residents evacuated from their homes.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Following a controlled explosion the suspect device was declared a viable pipe bomb type device. It has been taken away for further examination."

Detectives appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
