Pipe bombs at Nutts Corner made safe by Army
A security alert at Nutts Corner ended on Saturday after two viable pipe bombs were discovered.
The pipe bombs, which were found in a lay-by around 6pm on Friday, were made safe by Army bomb experts and were taken away for further forensic analysis. The area was made safe on Saturday morning and surrounding roads which had been closed were re-opened.
DUP councillor and Policing and Community Safety Partnership member Roy Thompson condemned those responsible.
"This happened just a few miles away from my house. I deplore these actions and whoever is responsible for laying these pipe bombs," he said.
"It is irresponsible and shows total disrespect for the local community.
"A lot of people, including children, walk along this area to get to a nearby shop.
"This sort of activity is a danger to the general public. I urge anyone with information, no matter how little, to contact the PSNI and help bring these people to justice."
