Plot's perfect for a party

You would be forgiven for thinking they are territorial people but plot owners in south Belfast have no hesitations when it comes to a party.

As a celebration of National Allotment week, members of local community groups including Senior Moment Programme, Well Women's Group and TREE training centre all attended a Party on the Plot last week at Blythefield Allotments.

The event organised by the Greater Village Regeneration Trust (GVRT) in conjunction with the Blythefield Plot Holders Association, was aimed at bringing together local plot holders and building a sense of community.

Those that attended enjoyed a barbecue along with a variety of freshly homegrown produce, straight from the plot.

Sarah Bowden, Project Coordinator at GVRT, said: "All the members have worked hard over the last few months to tend their plot and the allotments are now all full of colour with all sorts of flowers, fruit and vegetables growing . The event was organised to bring together the plot holders, so that they could get to know each other and encourage a sense of community and sharing."

The National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners (NSALG) encouraged allotment holders across the UK to galvanise community support for allotments and protect them from developers by hosting a Party on the Plot between August 6 and 12.
