Police CCTV operator in court charged with having a loaded gun while drunk
A police CCTV operator appeared in court today charged with having a loaded gun while drunk.
Ian Cardwell is alleged to have committed the firearms offence at his home on the outskirts of Belfast.
The 53-year-old, of Ballyduff Road in Newtownabbey, was arrested during the incident on March 25.
Entering the dock at Belfast Magistrates' Court dressed in a shirt and tie, Cardwell nodded to confirm he understood the charge.
A police constable said he could connect the accused to the alleged offence of possessing a loaded firearm while drunk or under the influence of drugs.
No further details were disclosed during the brief hearing.
Cardwell, who is believed to work at a PSNI station in Belfast, was released on continuing bail.
He is due back in court in two weeks time.
