Police quiz man after guns found in Belfast house
Police are questioning a man following the discovery of guns and ammunition in west Belfast at the weekend.
A 52-year-old man was arrested following the search of a property in Forest Street on Saturday night.
Detective Sergeant Kenneth Leckey said Army technical officers were called to the scene to examine suspected pipe bomb components.
"Firearms and ammunition were discovered by police at a house in Forest Street," he said.
"ATO [Army Technical Officers] were called in to assist with examining a number of items, including suspected pipe bomb components.
"All items have now been removed for further examination."
A number of families in the area had to leave their homes for while as police carried out their investigation.
"As a precaution a number of residents were asked to leave their homes for a short period overnight and Cavendish Street Hall was made available for them," Detective Leckey added.
"The arrested man remains in custody at this time assisting police with their inquiries."
