Police quiz man over double bomb bid

BY DONNA DEENEY

A man arrested in connection with a double bomb attack outside Derry City Council offices was being questioned by police last night.

The 40-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday morning in the Co Antrim area and taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite.

On Monday CCTV footage of the suspected bomber was released, along with photos of the rucksack and a bicycle similar to the one used in the attack.

Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said: "Either device had the potential to kill or injure anyone in the vicinity, had they exploded.

"The second device on the bike was timed to go off when the security forces were in the area dealing with the first device in the rucksack."

Anyone with information can contact police on 0845 600 8000 extension 64911.

Alternatively, phone the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or email police at seriouscrime branch@psni.pnn.police.uk.
