Police reassure public over abduction scare
The Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) has met with the Area Commander in response to the reports of suspicious approaches to children.
The Area Commander reassured the PCSP community representatives, councillors and Neighbourhood Watch coordinators that the police were being "extremely proactive" in addressing the issue.
Chair of the PCSP, Councillor Robert Hill commented: "I would like to reassure the public that the police are taking this very seriously and are doing everything in their power to prevent any further incidents and that we, as public representatives, will do everything we can to support them by asking the public to be vigilant and to ensure their children know what to do if approached by a stranger."
The meeting heard that alongside the enquiries being carried out by CID, police stepped up patrols in areas children frequent and that all schools will also be contacted by the Schools Liaison Officer to offer advice and guidance.
Mr Hill added: 'The PCSP - which contrary to a comment made in this paper last week consists of both elected and independent members all of whom represent the views of local communities - would like to highlight the fact that the risk to our children's safety is low so we would like to get this vital information out there without causing alarm."
