Police in Castlereagh have seized cannabis plants with an estimated value of £100,000.

The plants were uncovered at premises in Kilbroney House along with cultivation equipment during the search on Friday, Feburary 11. UUP councillor Michael Copeland said the discovery reflected well on police but not the Housing Executive.

“There is a very real feeling within the community, that not enough care is taken by the Housing Executive when granting or supervising tenancies in these buildings,” he said.

A Housing Executive spokesperson said it would “monitor the situation in this block of flats and will take appropriate action if necessary”.

A 38-year-old man has been charged with cultivating cannabis and possession of class B drugs. He will appear at Newtownards Magistrates Court on March 10.
