Police widow glad to see support
The widow of the last policeman to be killed by dissident republicans in Northern Ireland said the turn-out at Ronan Kerr's funeral sent a strong message to the perpetrators.
Kate Carroll's husband Stephen was gunned down by the Continuity IRA in Craigavon, Co Armagh, in March 2009.
Well over 1,000 mourners attended the Requiem Mass for Pc Kerr, including Mrs Carroll.
She said: "It was an occasion that I thought I would never have to see again but I am so glad of the turnout, there was such a turnout, I was so, so glad to see that.
"Everybody was out supporting the family. It was sending a real strong message to the perpetrators that we don't want this."
She said she hoped the public images of unity translated into helping to bring the killers to justice.
