Polish teenager hit by bottle in Belfast's Ormeau Park
A 15-year-old Polish boy was struck on the head with a plastic bottle and racially abused in an incident which police are treating as a hate crime.
Another male, who is aged 16, had his mobile phone stolen.
Police are describing the incident as a street robbery and assault.
It is understood both victims were Polish nationals.
The incident occurred at Ormeau Park at 9.25pm on Saturday but details were only made public yesterday.
According to police, the two victims were walking through the park when they were approached by two older teenagers.
One of the older males struck the 15-year-old on the head with a plastic bottle and made a racist remark before taking a mobile phone from the 16-year-old.
Emmet McDonough-Brown, an Alliance councillor for Botanic, said the latest incident further supported calls for the immediate publication of the long-awaited racial equality strategy.
A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are treating the incident as a hate crime."
Detectives have appealed for anyone with information to contact them by calling the new non-emergency number, 101.
