Tens of thousands of households lost electricity in Northern Ireland due to a network fault.

The cause of the problem in parts of Co Down and Belfast is under investigation, NIE said.

A spokeswoman said: "Tens of thousands of customers in parts of County Down and Belfast experienced an interruption to electricity supplies this afternoon after a fault occurred on the high voltage transmission network in the Castlereagh area.

"NIE engineers responded immediately, starting the restoration process to resupply all customers within 30 minutes."

All power has been restored.
