Principals make appeal for index-linked school funds
Almost 150 primary school principals have joined together to pen a letter to the Secretary of State appealing for more funding.
The letter was sent to DUP leader Arlene Foster, Sinn Fein Northern leader Michelle O'Neill and education officials as well as James Brokenshire.
The 146 head teachers request a guaranteed year-on-year increase to school budgets in line with inflation for at least the next five years.
They say that the amount is needed "simply to maintain basic provision for the children in our schools", warning that the high quality education they achieve is now "seriously at risk".
The letter has been backed by NASUWT, the largest teachers' union in Northern Ireland.
Justin McCamphill said it is "a timely reminder of what is at stake when politicians fail to reach agreement".
