Prison chief rejects report Magilligan to close and jail jobs to be axed
The head of the Northern Ireland prison service has rejected claims that Magilligan is to close.
It has been reported that the Co Londonderry jail is to close with inmates moving to Maghaberry and "hundreds of prison officers expected to lose their jobs".
However, Ronnie Armour, head of the Northern Ireland Prison Service, said: "The Northern Ireland Prison Service totally refutes any suggestion that Magilligan prison is to close or prison officers are to lose their jobs.
"Reports by a Belfast media publication today are inaccurate and ill-informed and have little regard for the people working in our prisons.”
