Prisoners evacuated during Maghaberry Prison fire
Cells had to be evacuated at Maghaberry Prison yesterday after a fire broke out.
Firefighters and police rushed to the jail after a blaze at the recreational room at Roe House just before 5pm.
The Prison Service said the fire took place in an area housing "integrated prisoners".
The Fire and Rescue Service confirmed four appliances were sent to deal with the fire which was brought under control within an hour.
A spokesman for the Department of Justice said: "As a result of a fire in an area at Maghaberry prison housing integrated prisoners, it was necessary to move some prisoners outside and bring in the fire service. No injuries were sustained."
The incident was over by 9.30.
