PSNI are freemen in North Down
The PSNI have been celebrated in North Down in the first ever event to bestow the Freedom of the Borough on the police service which this year marks its 10th birthday.
More than 80 officers marched through the centre of Bangor on Saturday to receive the honour which was accepted by chief constable Matt Baggott.
“I see this as recognition of the commitment and professionalism of not only the officers and staff serving this area but of every member of the police service across Northern Ireland,” said Mr Baggott.
North Down mayor James McKerrow said: “In North Down we have experienced policing at its best over the last decade. I trust today’s ceremony will serve to further strengthen the links already forged between our council and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.”
