PSNI helicopter lands on jammed A1 after crash
This dramatic photo shows the moment a PSNI helicopter landed on the main Belfast-Dublin road outside Newry to airlift an injured motorcyclist to hospital.
The collision took place shortly after 3pm yesterday afternoon on the northbound carriageway of the A1 near Jonesborough.
The southbound carriageway was closed to allow the PSNI aircraft to land.
The motorcyclist, who is in his 40s, was flown to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where his condition was last night described as serious.
A crash victim was also taken to hospital last night after being injured in a two-vehicle collision on the Portaferry Road outside Newtownards.
An Ambulance Service spokesman said that two people had been helped at the scene, but only one needed treatment at the nearby Ulster Hospital.
