Quinn firm can't sue over road-building project in the Republic
A firm that once formed part of bankrupt billionaire Sean Quinn's business empire has been blocked from suing in Northern Ireland over a road-building project in the Republic.
Quinn Building Products Ltd is claiming more than £250,000 for Tarmacing work carried out on a Co Cavan scheme.
But a judge at the High Court in Belfast stayed proceedings north of the border after deciding he has no jurisdiction to hear the case.
Based in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, Quinn Building Products is now part of the rebranded Aventas Group.
It was subcontracted by civil engineering company P&S Civil Works Ltd for the Cavan Town Eastern Access Road Construction Project but dispute has now arisen over money allegedly due as part of the arrangement.
In an application to stay the proceedings, P&S argued that the subcontract was performed in the Republic.
The company further contended that its own location in Co Cavan strengthen the case for Northern Ireland having no jurisdiction in the case.
Quinn Building Products countered by claiming the deal was formed in Northern Ireland.
