'Race hate' behind home attacks

Police are treating separate attacks on homes in north Belfast as race hate crimes.

Windows at two properties in the Glenrosa Link were smashed during the early hours of yesterday morning.

No one was hurt in the incidents which were reported at about 2.30am.

Acting Inspector Roy Burnside said officers were investigating incidents of criminal damage and appealed for information.

He said: "Police would ask anyone who may have witnessed these incidents or who has any information to contact police."

It is understood that the people targeted were from Sudan.

SDLP councillor Pat Convery described the attacks as disgusting.

He said: "Those behind these cowardly attacks do not speak for the people of this city and they offer nothing positive to our community.

"I have no doubt that the people of north Belfast will stand in solidarity with these families at this difficult time."
