Rare books donated to priory
A rare collection of books has been donated to Benburb Priory.
The chief of the Clans of O'Neill, Dom Hugo O'Neill, who is domiciled in Setubal in Portugal, handed over his private archive to the priory's library and museum.
Dom Hugo's archive is described as an outstanding private collection and includes copies of the annals, genealogical tracts, articles and books, many of them rare, on the O'Neill dynasty.
The donation of Dom Hugo's collection is seen as a major coup for the library and museum, which is scheduled to open to the public in the spring.
It will also contain unique Servite and Marian book collections - some books date back to the 16th century - and the complete archives of the Servites in Britain and Ireland over the past 150 years.
