Renewed pressure on RTE over interview
RTE is under renewed fire as members of the former government communications committee said events surrounding the interview with drug mule Michaella McCollum should be investigated.
Fine Gael TD Patrick O'Donovan said he was concerned that RTE may have paid over the odds for the interview. RTE said it did not pay Michaella, but it has continued to refuse to say how much it paid a production company to make the programme.
Mr O'Donovan said: "The 'commercially sensitive' argument is baloney."
"My salary is known, my expenses are known. I have to account for that, and rightly so, but if Irish Water's senior staff were not forced to disclose their salaries the first people who would be outraged are RTE. They are operating a double standard. It smacks of total hypocrisy."
And Fianna Fail TD Michael Moynihan said: "There should be an open and frank discussion about everything that happened at that interview."
