Residents gather to show support for victim

By Nevin Farrell

Residents of the Town Parks North housing estate in Antrim have held a rally to express solidarity with a 98-year-old burglary victim.

Around 60 residents took to the streets to show their support for Ann Killen.

Miss Killen, who lives alone, has still not returned to her downstairs flat at Illustrious Court yesterday, but local people said they were expecting her to be well enough to leave hospital.

Roberta Richards (48), the secretary of the Town Parks North Community Association is also the area's Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator and organised the demonstration for Miss Killen on Sunday.

She said: "With her age she had to be checked out in hospital. "

Mrs Richards said locals hope she will return to the estate, adding: "She has always been there.

"I am in the estate 41 years and I can't remember a time when she wasn't there. People are disgusted but we are going to try our best to turn this into a positive for the elderly and the people in the estate," she said.
