Rian buzzing for All-Ireland title in spelling bee final
A Lurgan schoolboy has fought off stiff competition to be named the top speller in Ulster.
Rian McGeown from St Mary's Primary School, Derrytrasna, has won Eason's Ulster Spelling Bee 2017 and now moves forward to the All-Ireland National Spelling Bee final at Croke Park in Dublin next week.
Rian came up trumps in the highly anticipated final, held in Eason's flagship store in Belfast, with his winning word 'misjoinder' - the improper inclusion of parties in a legal action.
He will now be joined by other provincial winners to compete for a package full of books worth £500 and the prestigious title of the 2017 Eason Spelling Bee champion.
