Road upgrade sparks protest

Residents living near the route of a major road scheme have taken their protest to a DRD exhibition outlining the plans.
The protesters warned that plans to dual part of the A8 Belfast to Larne route are too elaborate and environmentally damaging and don't take account of the dwindling traffic levels on the present road.
The Irish Republic is to contribute £400m towards the scheme and the dualling of the A5 in the west.
Objector Jimmy Mills, who joined fellow residents at the Corr’s Corner Hotel exhibition, said changes are still being made to the plans and people living along one road in the Ballynure area have only just been made aware that it will no longer join the main road, instead finishing in a dead end.
