For most couples their honeymoon is one of the happiest times of their lives, but for some it ends in tragedy.

  • Welsh couple Ben and Catherine Mullany were shot dead during a raid at the hotel in Antigua where they stayed during their honeymoon in July 2008.
  • Ian Redmond (30) was killed by a shark while on his honeymoon in the Seychelles. The IT expert, from Nelson in Lancashire, had tied the knot with his sweetheart Gemma Houghton (27) just 10 days before his death in August 2011.
  • Michaela McAreavey (27), the daughter of Tyrone GAA manager Mickey Harte, was found strangled in the bathtub of the luxury Legends Hotel in Mauritius in January 2011. She had gone back to her room shortly after eating lunch with her husband John at a poolside restaurant.
  • Jeremy Hope (39), from Kingston upon Thames, south west London, was killed in a jet ski accident two days into his honeymoon with Sarah Greaves on the Greek island of Santorini in September last year.
