Rory makes it big on list of top celebrity charity givers
He's a formidable talent - and big-hearted with it.
World number one golfer Rory McIlroy has featured prominently in the Sunday Times Giving List, thanks to a huge donation to a Northern Ireland charity.
The Holywood sports star was featured on the list of wealthy figures who donate more than 1% of their earnings after he gave £1m towards the running costs of Cancer Fund for Children's Daisy Lodge short break facility in Newcastle, Co Down.
The donation saw him featured by the newspaper along with other top names from the world of music and sport such as Sir Elton John, golfer Justin Rose and footballer Steven Gerrard.
According to the survey, Rory - via his charity the Rory Foundation - gave away 2.63% of his wealth to the charity.
And The Cancer Fund for Children will also benefit financially when The Rory Foundation hosts the Irish Open at Royal County Down this May.
The golfer has spoken in the past about how he considers himself "fortunate" that he can help financially, particularly to benefit causes in Northern Ireland.
"Daisy Lodge is a miracle. Families arrive feeling exhausted having been told their child has cancer and having to spend a lot of time on the hospital ward," he said during a visit there last October.
"A short break at Daisy Lodge gives them a chance to escape that and be together as a family. Coming from a loving family myself, I appreciate how important that is.
"It really touched me emotionally when I came here before. I'm fortunate that I can help."
