Rory McIlroy 'excited' to become a US resident
Rory McIlroy has revealed he is "excited" to become an American resident next year.
The Holywood golfer who married Erica Stoll last month is preparing to take part in The Players tournament in Florida.
The 27-year-old golfer married US national Erica (29) in an intimate ceremony on the grounds of Ashford Castle in Co Mayo.
Speaking before the championship got under way, McIlroy revealed he would become a US resident from January 1 next year.
He said: "I am not a resident in the States and I can only spend 120 days here.
"I have been a bit of a nomad the last couple of years so from January 1 next year, I am going to be a legal resident of the United States and legally have a home, so I am excited for that.
"It will mean being centred and going back to a residence knowing it is yours."
Earlier this week McIlroy described his wedding as "the best weekend of his life".
